U.S. presidential envoy Keith Kellogg arrived in Kyiv on 24 August to represent the Trump administration at Ukraine’s Independence Day ceremonies, according to official announcements. Kellogg’s presence underscores continued U.S. political backing for Ukraine as the country marks 34 years since declaring independence from the Soviet Union. President Volodymyr Zelensky hosted the commemorations, which also drew Canadian Prime Minister Daniel Carney—on his first visit to Ukraine, travelling by rail from Poland—and several European defence ministers. The international line-up is intended to signal sustained Western support for Kyiv amid its ongoing war with Russia.
