Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has appointed Olha Stefanishyna as Kyiv’s new ambassador to the United States, according to a decree signed on 27 August. The White House approved her candidacy earlier this week, smoothing the way for her to take up the post in Washington. Stefanishyna, 39, was Ukraine’s deputy prime minister for European and Euro-Atlantic integration and played a central role in the country’s efforts to deepen ties with NATO and the European Union. In her new role she is expected to press for an expanded bilateral agenda that includes a fresh U.S. arms package for Ukraine and a proposed agreement on co-developing modern drones for American use.
