Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed bill No. 12414, which affects the country's anti-corruption agencies NABU and SAPO. The law was published in the Voice of Ukraine newspaper and came into effect on July 23, 2025. Following the enactment, Zelensky announced plans to introduce a new bill aimed at restoring the independence of these anti-corruption bodies. He also met with heads of Ukraine’s law enforcement, anti-corruption agencies, and the Prosecutor General to develop a joint plan to combat corruption within two weeks. The European Union, including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, has expressed concern about the restrictions imposed on NABU and SAPO by the new law and has requested clarifications from Zelensky regarding its implications.
