The European Union has suspended all financial assistance to Ukraine, Ukrainian outlet Ekonomichna Pravda reported, citing diplomatic messages sent to Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko’s government. EU officials said the payments are on hold because of concerns that Kyiv is back-tracking on promised anti-corruption reforms. Brussels is insisting that the Ukrainian parliament adopt legislation that would reinforce the independence of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP). Unless the measures are enacted, loans sourced from income on frozen Russian assets under the EU’s ERA programme will remain frozen, the EU warned.
