Former U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement acting director Tom Homan sharply rebuked California Governor Gavin Newsom after the governor described ICE as President Donald Trump’s “private police force” that pledges loyalty to the president rather than the Constitution. In televised and online interviews on Thursday, Homan called Newsom “an embarrassment to the position he holds,” adding that the governor should thank the Trump administration for what Homan said were improvements in public safety in Los Angeles. Homan also rejected Newsom’s assertion about ICE’s oath, saying the agency “swears to uphold the Constitution” and will continue immigration enforcement in California regardless of political criticism.
"Gavin Newsom is an embarrassment to the position he holds. Hard stop. If he had an ounce of integrity, he would be calling President Trump and thanking [him] for making L.A. safer." — @RealTomHoman slammed Newsom for referring to ICE as President Trump's "private police force" https://t.co/67jiESL32e
