A North Texas woman described as a "stateless Palestinian" was released from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention after nearly five months, or more than 140 days, in custody. The woman, who is married to a U.S. citizen and resides in Arlington, was detained upon returning from her honeymoon. She publicly shared her experience for the first time, stating that she felt "criminalized for being stateless" and that her humanity was stripped away during her detention. The case has sparked debate about the reasons for her prolonged detainment and sudden release. Separately, an Iranian grandmother was also released from ICE custody after nearly three weeks; she had been detained while gardening outside her home in Louisiana. Her release followed advocacy efforts and involvement from Republican Majority Leader Steve Scalise. Both cases highlight ongoing issues related to ICE detentions and the treatment of individuals with complex immigration statuses.
