President Donald Trump convened his Cabinet at the White House at 11 a.m. Eastern on Tuesday, the first full meeting of his second-term team since he signed the sweeping One Big Beautiful Bill Act on July 4. Ahead of the session, the president circulated letters to several trading partners postponing until Aug. 1 the next round of tariff increases and urging fresh negotiations. The Cabinet was expected to review the administration’s trade strategy as businesses and lawmakers press for a reduction in tensions following the 145 percent levy on Chinese goods that took effect in April. Officials also planned to discuss federal relief efforts in Texas after catastrophic flooding along the Guadalupe River Basin pushed the death toll above 100, as well as the timetable for implementing the new law’s tax cuts on tips, overtime pay and Social Security benefits. The meeting followed Trump’s morning talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and comes as the White House attempts to keep focus on domestic economic policy while navigating simultaneous foreign-policy and disaster-response challenges.
