The White House says Washington, D.C., has logged seven straight days without a homicide, the city’s longest such stretch during any summer on record, after President Donald Trump ordered a federal takeover of local policing and deployed National Guard troops earlier this month. Administration figures, cited by Fox News and other outlets, show reported carjackings fell 83%, robberies 46%, car thefts 21% and overall violent crime 22% in the week following the federal intervention. Officials also report about 550 arrests for offenses ranging from assault on a police officer to armed robbery and child-abuse charges. The crackdown included clearing homeless encampments, stepping up street patrols and removing suspected gang members and undocumented offenders, according to the White House. Local authorities have not yet released their own weekly crime bulletin, leaving independent verification of the numbers pending.
