Trump Promises Tariff Relief for U.S.-Made Semiconductors

U.S. Commerce Secretary Lutnick said President Donald Trump has assured leading technology companies they will be exempt from import tariffs if they manufacture semiconductors in the United States. The secretary disclosed the offer during an interview broadcast on Fox Business Network. The pledge is aimed at encouraging chipmakers to expand domestic production capacity, a priority for the administration as it seeks to reduce reliance on foreign supply chains. The United States currently imposes steep levies on a broad range of imported goods, including a 145% tariff on many Chinese products, and has also provided subsidies under the CHIPS and Science Act to spur local investment.
