Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic Socialist candidate for New York City mayor, has raised over $1 million in his latest fundraising efforts, surpassing rivals including former Governor Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Eric Adams. A majority of Mamdani's campaign donations have come from outside New York City. Despite Mamdani's public stance against billionaires, a super PAC supporting his campaign accepted a $250,000 contribution from a billionaire heiress. Mamdani and the Democratic Socialists of America, with which he is affiliated, advocate for ending the prosecution of all misdemeanor offenses in New York City. This policy position has drawn criticism and concern from political figures including former President Donald Trump.
