Conservative commentator Charlie Kirk said on 7 July that he has been contacted by what he described as high-level corporate and political figures urging former President Donald Trump to back a bipartisan agreement that would legalize millions of undocumented immigrants. Kirk told his podcast audience he received calls from members of the “ruling class” who asked him to help build support for what he characterised as the largest amnesty in U.S. history, potentially covering as many as 25 million people. According to Kirk, the proposed deal is centred on agriculture and hospitality employers, industries that have struggled to fill jobs since the pandemic. He did not identify the individuals involved but said the pressure campaign is active and well-financed. Kirk’s account follows remarks Trump made at a 3 July rally in Iowa, where he voiced openness to granting legal status to long-time farm workers and credited Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins and Chief of Staff Susie Wiles for raising the issue. Trump’s 2024 campaign platform has otherwise emphasised mass deportations and tighter border enforcement, making any shift toward legalization politically sensitive. The White House and Trump campaign have not commented on Kirk’s statements, and no draft legislation has been released. Immigration has re-emerged as a dominant theme ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, with business groups lobbying for expanded labour pools while hard-line conservatives warn that an amnesty could fracture the Republican coalition.
