U.S. Vice President JD Vance said in an interview with Fox News on 10 August that Washington is arranging a face-to-face meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to explore an end to the war. Vance cautioned that such talks would be unlikely to bear fruit before Putin first confers with former U.S. President Donald Trump, adding that the three leaders could eventually meet together. Vance also declared that the United States is “done funding the Ukraine war business,” arguing that American taxpayers are unwilling to continue financing Kyiv’s defense. While encouraging European governments to purchase U.S. weapons directly if they wish to sustain Ukraine, he said Washington will no longer underwrite those transfers. The vice president indicated that any prospective settlement would probably follow the current line of contact and leave both Moscow and Kyiv dissatisfied, but he maintained that a negotiated accord is the only realistic path to halt the fighting. Vance added that the United States will keep diplomatic channels open with President Zelensky as talks progress.

US Vice President JD Vance: If you take where the current line of contact between Russia and Ukraine is, we're going to try to find some negotiated settlement that the Ukrainians and the Russians can live with. Where they can live in relative peace, where the killing stops. It's https://t.co/FPPXUPlrzy
