Former U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that he had “stopped seven wars, actually ten,” during his time in office, adding that four of those conflicts were averted because of tariffs he imposed on trading partners. Speaking in remarks delivered on Aug. 25, Trump argued that tariffs can serve as an instrument of national security, contending that economic pressure can deter military confrontations and safeguard U.S. interests.
