US Treasury Secretary Bessent Says Canada Willing to Join Russia Secondary Tariffs, Urges EU to Pressure Russia, Threatens India

US Treasury Secretary Bessent stated that Canada was willing to join the US in imposing secondary tariffs related to Russia. However, he reiterated that European countries remain unwilling to participate in these secondary sanctions. Bessent called on European Union allies to increase pressure on Russia and urged them to join the US in threatening India with tariffs for purchasing Russian oil. He criticized the EU for what he described as hypocrisy, noting that some European countries continue to buy Russian crude despite the sanctions efforts.
