
The district judges of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York have voted to appoint Jay Clayton to continue serving as Manhattan’s U.S. attorney, according to a court statement released on 18 August. Clayton’s appointment takes effect on 20 August 2025 and allows him to remain in the role until a successor is nominated by the president and confirmed by the Senate. He has been leading the office on an interim basis. In a brief statement, Clayton said he was “honored to continue serving the people of New York together with the talented and hardworking women and men of the Office.”
