President Donald Trump is set to appoint Jeffrey Clark, a Harvard graduate and former partner at Kirkland and Ellis, as the White House's regulation czar, according to reports from The Federalist. Clark, who previously served in the Trump administration's Department of Justice, will take on the role of associate administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA). In this position, he will work under the recently confirmed Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought to ensure federal agencies align with Trump's executive orders and prioritize the administration's agenda in crafting agency rules. Clark's appointment does not require Senate confirmation, similar to his recent role as a senior adviser to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's chief legal officer. His extensive experience as an appellate litigator and administrative law expert, along with his past service in the Trump administration, positions him well for the regulatory challenges ahead. Clark faced significant legal battles following his involvement in the 2020 election, where he drafted a letter questioning election integrity in Georgia, leading to inquiries into election fraud. This resulted in charges from the Washington, D.C. Bar and his inclusion as a target in election-related indictments. In a separate development, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), under Chairman Andrew N. Ferguson, has announced the formation of a Joint Labor Task Force aimed at protecting American workers from deceptive, unfair, and anticompetitive labor-market practices such as no-poach agreements, noncompete agreements, and wage-fixing agreements. This initiative involves collaboration across the FTC's various bureaus and offices to prioritize investigations and prosecutions related to labor market conduct.
