Sean “Diddy” Combs has begun therapy and other self-improvement classes at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center while awaiting sentencing for federal prostitution charges. The 55-year-old music executive was found guilty earlier this month on two counts of transporting women for illicit purposes and cleared of more serious sex-trafficking and racketeering allegations. According to court filings and people familiar with his detention, Combs has joined the prison’s STOP program, which targets sexual and domestic violence, and is participating in a drug-abuse treatment regimen overseen by criminologist Dr. Harry K. Wexler. His lawyers say the programs show he has accepted responsibility and is working to address substance abuse and violent behavior. Legal specialists note that defendants frequently undertake such courses to persuade judges to impose lighter penalties. Prosecutors are asking for a four- to five-year term, while the defense argues federal guidelines suggest between 15 and 21 months. U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian will determine Combs’s sentence on Oct. 3; he could, in theory, impose up to 20 years.
