Former U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement acting director Tom Homan said on 28 August that Kilmar Abrego Garcia, whom he described as a gang member and designated terrorist, remains subject to two standing deportation orders and will be removed from the United States once a judge rules on the case. “He’s a significant public-safety threat … I’m giving you my word, he will be deported,” Homan told reporters outside a federal building. Homan accused Democratic lawmakers of trying to block the deportation and singled out California Governor Gavin Newsom, calling him “an embarrassment to the position he holds.” Standing beside supporters, Homan also invoked President Donald Trump’s pledge to tighten border security, saying the administration would ensure Abrego Garcia’s removal.
