U.S. Treasury Secretary Jenna Bessent told CNBC she expects the House of Representatives to vote on the administration’s tax bill at about 1:30 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday. The timing, if met, would allow the measure to clear the chamber before lawmakers leave for the Independence Day recess. Bessent stressed that decisions on interest rates remain the Federal Reserve’s responsibility, adding that if policymakers decline to ease at their upcoming meeting, “maybe the September cut will be bigger.” She also said the administration has “a lot of good candidates” for the Fed chair position and plans to begin the selection process in the fall.
