Nvidia $NVDA and Google $GOOG have invested in former OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever’s AI startup Safe Superintelligence. While the size of the funding was unknown, SSI was reportedly most recently valued at $32B.
Alphabet Inc. and Nvidia Corp. have invested in Safe Superintelligence (SSI), a startup co-founded by Ilya Sutskever, former chief scientist at OpenAI, along with Daniel Gross and Daniel Levy. The investment is part of a broader effort by multiple venture capital firms including Greenoaks Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and DST Global to back SSI, which focuses on developing safe, superintelligent AI. SSI, founded in June 2024, has recently raised $2 billion in a funding round, bringing its valuation to $32 billion. This marks a significant increase from its previous valuation of $5 billion just seven months ago. In addition to financial support, Alphabet has entered into an agreement to provide SSI with access to Google Cloud's Tensor Processing Units (TPUs), which are crucial for AI research and development. This partnership is expected to enhance SSI's capabilities in building safe AI systems.
