A new startup accelerator, Disciplus Ventures, has emerged in El Segundo, California, aiming to foster innovation in military and defense technology. Backed by prominent venture capital firms such as Andreessen Horowitz, Lux Capital, and Point72 Ventures, the accelerator has gained attention for its alignment with traditional American values and its focus on national security interests. Disciplus Ventures, led by 21-year-old Jakob Diepenbrock, has raised $6 million for its second cohort of entrepreneurs. The accelerator has already supported companies like Durin, Rune Technologies, and Vanguard Defense, which are working on autonomous drilling equipment, military supply chain software, and electronic warfare data products, respectively. The El Segundo area, home to major players like SpaceX and Anduril, has become a hub for early-stage hardware startups. Disciplus aims to rival Y Combinator by creating a defense-focused ecosystem, with backing from investors such as Kevin Hartz and Champion Hill Ventures. The accelerator has also drawn attention for its MAGAfied, pro-Christian, and predominantly male-led vision, reflecting a shift in Silicon Valley's investment priorities toward defense and hardware sectors. Other notable developments in the region include Hadrian's $200M funding, Castelion's $100M funding, and the cloud seeding startup Rainmaker. Additionally, Marc Andreessen's New Founding initiative aligns with this trend.
YC has done a good job supporting ambitious deeptech projects. Seeds sowed over many years are starting to sprout in meaningful ways. Biggest support to founders (esp those building in the physical world) isn’t money - it’s the right advice, network, and peer support.
