Ilya Sutskever, co-founder of OpenAI and former Chief Scientist, is reportedly raising over $1 billion for his AI startup, Safe Superintelligence (SSI), at a valuation exceeding $30 billion. Greenoaks Capital Partners is leading the funding round, committing $500 million. This marks a 30x valuation jump from the company's previous $5 billion valuation. SSI, co-founded by Sutskever along with Daniel Levy and Daniel Gross, focuses on developing safe AI systems and has received prior investments from Sequoia Capital and Andreessen Horowitz. The company has raised approximately $2 billion in total but is not yet generating revenue and does not plan to sell AI products in the near future. The valuation positions SSI among the 15 most valuable private venture-backed companies globally.
