Daydream, the e-commerce startup founded by former Nordstrom and Stitch Fix executive Julie Bornstein, on 25 June opened a public beta of its artificial-intelligence chatbot designed to simplify online fashion shopping. The web-based service lets users submit detailed text or image queries—such as “dress for a summer wedding in Paris”—to surface real-time recommendations from a catalogue exceeding 8,000 brands and roughly two million products. After answering onboarding questions that create a “style passport,” shoppers are directed to merchants’ sites to complete purchases; Daydream collects about 20 percent of each sale. An integrated checkout and additional personalization tools are planned. The launch follows a $50 million seed round last year co-led by Forerunner Ventures and Index Ventures. With CTO Maria Belousova overseeing product development, Daydream is betting that a fashion-specific AI engine can outmaneuver broader search offerings from Google, Amazon and emerging retail-tech rivals.
