Skechers has introduced “Find My Skechers,” a line of children’s sneakers that includes a concealed holder for Apple’s AirTag tracker beneath the heel insole. The shoes, which start at US$52 and are sold in several styles for toddlers through pre-teens, allow parents to monitor the footwear’s location—and by extension the child wearing them—through Apple’s Find My network on iPhone, iPad, Mac or the web. The product is not an official collaboration with Apple and is sold without an AirTag. The launch broadens the growing ecosystem of accessories designed for AirTag, originally marketed for locating items such as keys or luggage. While privacy advocates warn that any tracking device can be misused, Apple’s firmware triggers alerts on nearby iPhones or Android handsets if an unknown AirTag appears to be travelling with a person for an extended period, and the tag will eventually emit a sound if it cannot be located. Skechers says the holder is cushioned so wearers cannot feel the device, and the shoes remain machine-washable once the tag is removed.
