Kenya's Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has confirmed that the general elections will proceed as scheduled in 2027, barring any court directives to the contrary. IEBC Chair Erastus Ethekon assured the public that the 2027 elections will be free, fair, and transparent, dismissing allegations of vote rigging and the existence of ghost polling stations. The commission emphasized its independence and commitment to upholding electoral laws. Additionally, the IEBC has set November 27, 2025, as the date for 24 pending by-elections, which include six parliamentary constituencies, 17 county assembly seats, and the vacant Baringo Senate seat. These by-elections aim to fill leadership gaps in various counties and end prolonged periods of non-representation. The announcement has set the stage for political contests involving key camps, including those of President William Ruto, Raila Odinga, and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Meanwhile, the High Court has imposed a seven-day deadline on the IEBC and Parliament to justify the ongoing block on MPs’ recall processes. Separately, the Senate has begun deliberations on a proposal to elevate Thika town to an industrial city status.
