Four MPs from Kenya Kwanza, including Kimani Ichung’wah, have filed an appeal in the Court of Appeal to contest a ruling that declared the Azimio coalition as the majority in the National Assembly. They warned that failure to stay the decision could lead to operational paralysis. Concurrently, Chief Justice Martha Koome and seven Supreme Court judges have obtained an injunction from a Narok court, preventing the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) from processing their removal. This injunction blocks the constitutional process aimed at removing the judges. The Supreme Court is set to hear challenges regarding the appointments of the Chief Electoral Commissioner (CEC) and Election Commissioners (ECs) on February 19, 2025. The High Court in Narok has also issued a stay order halting the arrests of Bomet Governor Barchok and several officials implicated in a Sh1.4 billion graft investigation, granting them a 21-day reprieve as investigations continue. Additionally, the Supreme Court has deferred hearings on petitions challenging a new law that alters the appointment process for the CEC and ECs, with a new hearing date set for March 19, 2025.
