Edwin Sifuna, the Secretary General of Kenya's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), has publicly threatened to resign from the party if it endorses President William Ruto for re-election in the 2027 general elections. Alongside Saboti MP Caleb Amisi, Sifuna has warned of a potential mass walkout from ODM should the party back Ruto's bid. Sifuna emphasized his refusal to support President Ruto and indicated that ODM can replace him if necessary. The two politicians have hinted at the formation of a new political alliance, referred to as a 'third force,' which could challenge the established political order. The Kenya Moja alliance has also emerged as a political contender, posing a threat to the Ruto-Gachagua grip on the 2027 elections. Meanwhile, Trans Nzoia elders have advised Sifuna and Amisi to resign from ODM and form their own party. In parallel developments, President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga have reportedly selected a team to implement a 10-point agenda as part of their pre-election alliance strategy for 2027. Additionally, there are ongoing lobbying efforts opposing Ruto's nomination of Ojwang as chair of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR).
