Ukrainian forces have captured multiple African nationals fighting for Russia amid ongoing conflict. Two Cameroonian men, who were apprehended near Siversk, stated they were lured to Russia with false promises of civilian jobs—one at a shampoo factory and the other in dental care—but were subsequently forced into military service. Additionally, a Nigerian citizen named Kehinde Oluwagbemileke, a 29-year-old former student at Moscow’s Higher School of Economics, was captured during assault operations in the Zaporizhzhia region by the Ukrainian Defense Intelligence unit known as the "Freedom of Russia Legion." Kehinde reported that Russia has recruited fighters from diverse regions including South America, Africa, and China. Ukrainian Special Operations Forces have also conducted successful raids near the Russian-Ukrainian border, eliminating Russian soldiers and seizing equipment, demonstrating continued tactical operations in contested areas. These captures highlight the presence of foreign nationals coerced or recruited to fight for Russia in the conflict.
