Russian troops captured the village of Malynivka in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region, the first settlement they have taken since 2022, according to battlefield reports published on Monday. The village, which had about 873 residents before the war, lies near the southern front where Ukrainian forces have held the line for more than two years. Further east, Russian units pushed through Ukrainian defenses around Myrnohrad in Donetsk Oblast. After entering Novoekonomichne from the north, the attackers seized the nearby settlements of Razine and Fedorivka and advanced roughly four kilometers west of Novoekonomichne in a single day. The assault was reportedly supported by hundreds of drones, underscoring Moscow’s increasing reliance on unmanned systems to probe and overwhelm Ukrainian positions. In a parallel drive south of Toretsk, Russian forces took Leonidivka and Petrivka, tightening a three-pronged encirclement of Ukrainian troops in Sherbynivka. Front-line observers also reported Russian flags raised in Novospaske and sightings of troops in Chervonyi Lyman, signaling a broader deterioration of Ukrainian defenses northeast of Pokrovsk.
