OpenAI has expanded its Deep Research feature to all paying ChatGPT users, including Plus, Team, Edu, and Enterprise subscribers. Previously available only to Pro users at $200 per month, the feature now allows Plus, Team, Edu, and Enterprise users 10 queries per month, while Pro users receive an increased limit of 120 queries per month. Deep Research, an AI-powered tool, conducts in-depth, multi-step research, synthesizing information from hundreds of online sources to generate comprehensive reports with citations. It also supports uploaded files and can embed images in its outputs. The tool is designed for detailed knowledge work in fields such as finance, science, and policy. OpenAI has also made improvements to the feature since its launch, including better handling of uploaded files and enhanced citation capabilities. The tool is accessible via the ChatGPT web interface, with plans to expand to mobile and desktop apps later. The feature has been classified as medium risk in OpenAI's Preparedness Framework, and its System Card has been officially released. Deep Research scored 26.6% on a benchmark test, significantly outperforming earlier models, with notable gains in areas like chemistry, humanities, and mathematics. It faces competition from similar offerings, including Google's Gemini Advanced and Perplexity's Sonar API.
