Meta Platforms is reviving a smartwatch it shelved in 2022 and has lined up Chinese original design manufacturer Huaqin to build early units, according to a DigiTimes Asia report echoed by several technology publications. Prototype specifications indicate the wrist-worn device will carry at least one integrated camera—earlier versions featured front and rear sensors—and run Meta-specific software with generative-AI functions rather than conventional health tracking. The company is expected to preview the watch at its Meta Connect developer conference on 17–18 September. The product is designed to complement Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses and Quest virtual-reality headsets, extending the firm’s ecosystem of camera-enabled wearables aimed at immersive and AI-powered applications. Meta has not confirmed the project, release timing or pricing. Industry sources say initial production will be limited to gauge demand as the company seeks to diversify its hardware portfolio and challenge market leaders Apple and Samsung in the wearables sector.
