A federal prosecutor has formally imputed Argentine President Javier Milei, ruling-party deputy Lilia Lemoine and several libertarian activists on allegations of issuing threats and running a harassment campaign against journalist Julia Mengolini. Prosecutor Fernando Domínguez accuses the group of intimidation, misuse of public funds and possible involvement in an illicit association. Judge Lino Mirabelli endorsed urgent investigative measures and granted police protection to the journalist while the probe examines whether state resources financed a coordinated network of online abuse. The judicial move coincided with Milei’s visit to La Plata, where he relaunched La Libertad Avanza’s faltering campaign in Buenos Aires Province ahead of the 7 September provincial legislative ballot and the 26 October national elections. Addressing several thousand supporters at Club Atenas, the president vowed to defeat “kirchnerismo” at the polls, while provincial governor Axel Kicillof urged voters to express their anger at the government in the upcoming contests. Party organisers said Milei will continue a whistle-stop tour of key districts, presenting national candidates in Junín on 19 August and planning further events in San Nicolás and other cities as La Libertad Avanza tries to regain momentum amid polls showing tight three-way races against Peronist and local parties.
