Argentina’s vice president, Victoria Villarruel, filed a criminal complaint in the Comodoro Py federal courts accusing three prominent supporters of President Javier Milei—La Derecha Diario director Javier Negre, national deputy Lilia Lemoine and writer Nicolás Márquez—of a series of online threats and intimidation campaigns. The filing, registered as case 3163/2025 and assigned to Federal Judge Sebastián Casanello, lists alleged offences that include threats, public intimidation, instigation to commit crimes, illicit association and incitement to violence under article 213 bis of the Penal Code. Villarruel states that the defendants conducted “daily, methodical and insistent” harassment against her and the Senate through the social-media platform X. Negre dismissed the complaint as “a complete absurdity,” charging that Villarruel seeks to have him jailed and expelled from the country for exercising press freedom. Lemoine responded online by publishing excerpts of the court filing and escalating her criticism of the vice president, while Márquez labelled the action “state terrorism.” The legal move deepens the rift between Milei and his vice president, whose relationship has deteriorated since mid-2024. The accused have indicated they will countersue Villarruel for alleged defamation, ensuring that the political and judicial confrontation is likely to continue.
