Hundreds of people marched through central Yerevan on 4 July to demand the release of Samvel Karapetyan, a Russian-Armenian billionaire and head of the Tashir Group who was recently detained. Participants gathered near the city centre before walking to the headquarters of Armenia’s National Security Service, chanting slogans in support of the businessman. Karapetyan was arrested after publicly criticising Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s election campaign, according to protest organisers. Demonstrators say the detention is politically motivated and are calling for authorities to free him immediately. Police did not immediately report any clashes or arrests linked to the rally.
