The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued multiple weather warnings from late June through mid-July 2025, forecasting heavy to extreme rainfall and strong winds across various regions, including Jakarta, Jabodetabek, Nusa Tenggara Barat (NTB), and other parts of Indonesia. Notably, on July 6, 2025, devastating floods occurred in Mataram City, NTB, caused by extreme rainfall resulting in nearly roof-high floodwaters in residential areas such as Selagalas. BMKG reported that approximately 4.2 billion liters of rainwater fell in less than six hours in Mataram. Jakarta experienced ongoing flooding, with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reporting that as of July 8, 2025, 58 neighborhood units (RT) and two road sections remained inundated. The agency also highlighted the risk of tidal flooding (banjir rob) in coastal Jakarta due to the full moon phase on July 10. BMKG forecasts indicate that the wet season or "kemarau basah" will persist across much of Indonesia until October 2025, with above-normal rainfall expected. Additionally, BMKG has started weather modification operations in Jakarta and surrounding areas from July 7 to mitigate flooding impacts. Other weather phenomena include the bediding cold phenomenon affecting Surabaya and surrounding areas until August, and unusually cold temperatures in Java, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara. Coastal infrastructure damage due to tidal flooding was reported in Demak Regency, Central Java, with severe road erosion and cracking. BMKG continues to issue daily early warnings for heavy rain and extreme weather across multiple Indonesian provinces, urging public vigilance.
