Tesla Inc. published its 2024 Impact Report on 30 June, claiming major advances in vehicle safety and energy efficiency. The company said drivers using its Autopilot driver-assistance system, with active supervision, recorded a crash rate nearly ten times lower than the U.S. national average for all makes and models. The report also states that the likelihood of a fire in a Tesla vehicle is eight times lower than the U.S. average across passenger cars. Citing World Health Organization data that 1.19 million people die in road accidents each year, Tesla argued that broader adoption of automated driving technology could save lives, reduce injuries and lower insurance costs.
