On July 2, 2025, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan arrived in Azerbaijan for a state visit, where he was officially welcomed and participated in several high-level meetings with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. The two leaders held a one-on-one meeting followed by the second session of the Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan Supreme Interstate Council in Baku. During the visit, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan exchanged signed documents and committed to regular dialogue and coordinated transport policy with neighboring countries. President Aliyev acknowledged that the two countries have been official allies for about a year and expressed appreciation for Uzbekistan's assistance in the restoration of Karabakh. Both presidents attended the inauguration of Uzbekistan’s new embassy building in Azerbaijan and visited the Sea Breeze Resort together. Separately, Eldar Namazov, former head of the presidential administration under Heydar Aliyev, suggested that a decision should be made soon to deploy the largest Turkish military base in the region within Azerbaijan. Additionally, Azerbaijan and Morocco explored prospects for cooperation during this period.
