Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin said Layer-2 networks should adopt a “minimalist” design that relies on Ethereum’s native security rather than attempting to rebuild core infrastructure from scratch. The approach, he argued, would reduce complexity, cut development time and allow L2 projects to focus on scaling transaction throughput without weakening the settlement guarantees provided by the main chain. Buterin’s comments come as multiple L2 teams race to capture users and developer interest with rollups and other scaling solutions. Advocates of the minimalist model contend that preserving Ethereum’s security framework will make it easier to audit code, prevent vulnerabilities and speed up deployment of upgrades aimed at lowering fees and improving network efficiency.
