World Boxing Association lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis was arrested at about 3:35 a.m. Friday in Miami Beach on a misdemeanor charge of battery-domestic violence, according to Miami-Dade County court and jail records. The 30-year-old boxer remained in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Friday afternoon, with bond yet to be set. The charge stems from a June 15 incident outside the home of Davis’s former partner in Doral, Florida, where the couple share custody of their two children. An arrest report says Davis struck the woman in the back of the head and slapped her in the face during an argument over a Father’s Day child-exchange, cutting her lower lip. The woman’s mother told police she witnessed the confrontation and later provided cellphone video of Davis throwing a small box at the victim. Doral Police issued a probable-cause alert in the weeks following the alleged assault, leading Miami Beach officers to detain Davis early Friday before transferring him to Doral for booking. “We have a zero-tolerance stance when it comes to crimes of this nature,” Doral Police Chief Edwin Lopez said in a statement, adding that the investigation is ongoing. The Baltimore native is undefeated in 31 professional bouts, with 28 knockouts, and has held world titles in three weight classes. Davis was serving 90 days of home detention last year for a hit-and-run crash in Baltimore and has twice faced, and seen dropped, previous domestic-violence accusations. His latest arrest puts in doubt a proposed August rematch with Lamont Roach Jr., following their majority draw in March.
