The Operador Nacional do Sistema Elétrico (ONS) has raised concerns about Brazil's electricity supply for the period 2025-2029, highlighting a potential deficit in meeting peak consumption demand. Alexandre Zucarato, ONS's Planning Director, indicated that the situation has worsened, prompting the agency to consider the reintroduction of daylight saving time as a measure to alleviate energy shortages. The ONS also emphasized the need for increased use of thermal power plants alongside hydroelectric sources to ensure adequate energy supply. A decision regarding these measures is expected by August 2025.
