The Brazilian government has initiated a plan to reimburse retirees and pensioners of the National Institute of Social Security (INSS) who were victims of unauthorized deductions linked to fraudulent activities. The restitution process is set to begin on July 24, 2025, following an agreement homologated by the Supreme Federal Court (STF). The plan was presented by the Attorney General's Office (AGU) and involves coordination among multiple institutions including the Ministry of Social Security, the Public Defender's Office, the Federal Public Ministry, and the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB). Beneficiaries must voluntarily opt into the reimbursement program via the Meu INSS app or at post offices. The government has allocated a special credit of R$3.3 billion to expedite payments, which will be made in daily batches covering up to 100,000 beneficiaries. The fraud, investigated and dismantled by the Federal Police, involved a criminal organization that operated for over a decade, causing losses estimated at R$30 million. The government emphasized that all affected individuals will receive full reimbursement with monetary correction. Minister Wolney Queiroz has publicly detailed the process and assured that no retiree will be left at a loss. The operation against the fraudsters, including the seizure of assets, continues as authorities seek to hold the perpetrators accountable.
