The Brazilian federal government has expanded the Bolsa Família program to include three new priority groups, specifically targeting families in situations of homelessness, food insecurity, and social risk. This policy change, effective from July 2025, aims to enhance social protection and food security for vulnerable populations. The Ministry of Social Development (MDS) announced the inclusion of these groups to broaden access to the program. Minister Wellington Dias emphasized that the measure is intended to strengthen social safety nets for families facing heightened vulnerability. Additionally, social spending on children and adolescents has increased but still accounts for only 2.5% of Brazil's GDP.
