Suspended Palmas mayor Eduardo Siqueira Campos suffered an acute myocardial infarction in the early hours of Tuesday while being held in preventive custody at the Tocantins Military Police headquarters. Officers transported him to the state-run Hospital Geral de Palmas after he reported intense chest pain, nausea and sweating. Hospital specialists performed an emergency catheterisation and implanted a new stent to clear a significant obstruction in a main coronary artery, according to a medical bulletin. The procedure was completed without complications, and the 63-year-old politician remains conscious, stable and under observation for at least 24 hours. Siqueira Campos has been jailed since 27 June as part of an investigation into alleged leaks of confidential Superior Tribunal de Justiça information. He was removed from office by court order but retains the title of mayor pending the outcome of the case.
