Ibovespa Falls 0.72% April 15-16 on Vale 2% Drop, Trump Tariffs, Powell Comments; Banco do Brasil Gains

The Ibovespa, Brazil's main stock market index, experienced declines over consecutive trading sessions from April 15 to April 16, 2025. On April 15, the index closed at 129,245 points, down 0.16%, amid market anticipation for details on Brazil's Budget Guidelines Law (LDO) and China's GDP data. The following day, April 16, the Ibovespa fell further by 0.72%, closing at 128,316 points. This decline was influenced by a 2% drop in shares of Vale (VALE3), one of the index's major components, and concerns over new tariffs announced by U.S. President Donald Trump. Additionally, market sentiment was affected by comments from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell and ongoing tariff tensions between the United States and China. Banco do Brasil (BBAS3) saw gains in the second market preview during this period, partially offsetting losses from other stocks. Overall, the Brazilian stock market faced downward pressure due to international trade disputes and domestic fiscal policy uncertainties.
