The Brazilian Federal Police (PF) have initiated new searches targeting suspects involved in a nationwide scheme of selling judicial sentences and leaking confidential information. This phase of the investigation, authorized by Supreme Federal Court (STF) Minister Cristiano Zanin upon request from the PF and with the approval of the Prosecutor General's Office (MPF), includes operations against an attorney from the Federal District suspected of leaking information about fraud investigations in the Superior Court of Justice (STJ). Additionally, a mayor under investigation reportedly had advance knowledge of judicial processes related to the scheme. Separately, the PF is also combating environmental crimes and misappropriation of federal assets in Minas Gerais, where expert reports estimate damages close to 52 million reais. In parallel, Supreme Court Minister Luiz Fux has demanded explanations from Hugo Motta regarding the delay in opening a Parliamentary Inquiry Commission (CPI) into fraud at the National Institute of Social Security (INSS). Fux has given a 15-day deadline for the Attorney General's Office (AGU) to respond and has requested information from the INSS, the Chamber of Deputies, the Federal Police, and the Office of the Comptroller General (CGU) about the ongoing fraud investigations. The case has been described by analysts as a deep and extensive corruption scheme affecting the INSS, with over two million retirees and pensioners contesting improper deductions from their benefits. Senator Weverton Rocha, an ally of former minister Carlos Lupi, has been named as a suspect but denies involvement. Senator Omar Aziz has been nominated by former Senate President Davi Alcolumbre to preside over the CPMI (Mixed Parliamentary Inquiry Commission) investigating the INSS fraud. The Attorney General's Office has pledged to hold those responsible accountable for the billion-reais fraud at the INSS. The investigations continue to unfold with multiple officials and entities involved.
