Air Marshal Harv Smyth, a former Northern Ireland fighter pilot born and educated in Lurgan, has been appointed as the next Chief of the Air Staff for the Royal Air Force. His appointment, approved by the King, is set to take effect in August 2025. The announcement was made during the Global Air Chiefs conference, where Air Vice-Marshal Suraya Marshall, Assistant Chief of the Air Staff, gave a welcome address. The Royal Aeronautical Society and defense organizations have congratulated Smyth on his new role.
