Rosie Jeanne Burke Roche, a 20-year-old second cousin of Princes William and Harry and granddaughter of the late 5th Baron Fermoy, was found dead at her family home in Norton, near Malmesbury in Wiltshire, on 14 July. According to evidence presented at Wiltshire and Swindon Coroner’s Court, her mother and sister discovered her with a firearm nearby, and a post-mortem indicated a traumatic head injury. Area coroner Grant Davies told the hearing that police have found no suspicious circumstances or indication of third-party involvement. The inquest was formally opened and adjourned until 25 October to allow further investigation. Roche had just completed her first year reading English Literature at Durham University, where Principal Wendy Powers described her as "loved for her creativity, energy and love of books, poetry and travel." The family has requested privacy and plans a private funeral followed by a memorial service at a later date. Buckingham Palace and the princes have declined to comment.
