Neuralink has opened its first clinical study in Great Britain to test the company’s brain-computer interface on people with severe paralysis. The trial is being conducted in partnership with University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The study will examine whether the implant can restore “digital autonomy” by allowing participants to control computers and other devices using only their thoughts. Neuralink said the initial focus is on patients who have lost mobility to the point that they cannot operate conventional input tools.
