Elon Musk's company Neuralink is preparing to begin human trials within the next 6 to 12 months for its brain implant technology called Blindsight, designed to restore vision to individuals who are completely blind, including those who have lost their eyes or optic nerves or have been blind since birth. The implant works by writing signals directly to the visual cortex and has already demonstrated success in monkeys, with one monkey having the implant for three years. Initially, the vision provided will be low resolution but is expected to improve and potentially offer enhanced capabilities such as seeing in infrared or ultraviolet spectrums. In addition to vision restoration, Neuralink is collaborating with researchers in California and Spain on a clinical trial aimed at developing a "Smart Bionic Eye" to help blind people recognize faces, read, and navigate using artificial intelligence. This study is led by the University of California at Santa Barbara and involves Spanish institutions. Furthermore, Neuralink has launched a clinical study in Great Britain in partnership with University College London Hospitals (UCLH) and Newcastle Hospitals to explore how its brain-computer interface can restore digital autonomy to individuals with severe paralysis by enabling them to control devices with their thoughts.

I’m trying to get as much reading and writing in as I can before the surgery. Recovery time varies widely—it could be up to several weeks before I see normally out of both eyes. I should train Jarvis to transcribe tweets and haikus for me. https://t.co/QGBUcRnYuB
