A Kingston Crown Court jury has found former nursery worker Roksana Lecka guilty of 21 counts of child cruelty after CCTV footage showed her systematically abusing infants at Riverside Nursery in Twickenham, southwest London. Lecka, 22, had already admitted seven charges before the trial; jurors convicted her of a further 14 offences and cleared her of three more. Prosecutors said Lecka pinched, scratched, kicked and punched children aged between 10 months and two years during a six-month period in 2024. One clip showed her kicking a boy in the face, while others captured her pushing toddlers head-first over cots, shoving a child onto a mattress and vaping near babies. The Metropolitan Police reviewed more than 300 hours of video to build the case. The Crown Prosecution Service called the abuse “exceptional cruelty,” saying the scale of offending was “staggering.” Riverside Nursery, which charged parents up to £1,900 a month, has since closed. Lecka will be sentenced on 26 September, and faces a substantial prison term. Law firm Irwin Mitchell, representing several families, said parents are “traumatised” by the revelations and urged tighter safeguards in early-years settings. Detectives stressed that the investigation uncovered no evidence of staff collusion but said lessons must be learned to prevent a repeat of the offences.
